Every year, the color experts at the Pantone Color Institute pore over research and analyses of design, film, food, fashion, art and entertainment, as well as materials, travel, sports, and technology, to arrive at a color of the year. This year it’s Pantone 18-3838, also known as ultra violet.
A dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade, PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future. Complex and contemplative, Ultra Violet suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now. The vast and limitless night sky is symbolic of what is possible and continues to inspire the desire to pursue a world beyond our own.
Enigmatic purples have also long been symbolic of counterculture, unconventionality, and artistic brilliance. Musical icons Prince, David Bowie, and Jimi Hendrix brought shades of Ultra Violet to the forefront of western pop culture as personal expressions of individuality. Nuanced and full of emotion, the depth of PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet symbolizes experimentation and non-conformity, spurring individuals to imagine their unique mark on the world, and push boundaries through creative outlets.
In order to make it easier for everyone, Pantone has created eight different color palettes that feature PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet to help you bring this year's special shade into your life.
My favorite is KINDRED SPIRITS and QUIETUDE.

The color surely is a big change from last year’s color Greenery. It is a bold color that if used correctly can communicate some really strong emotions. It is also a very difficult color to style. So here are seven ways you can wear it this year.
Kindred Spirits

Keeping in tune with the suggested color palette from Pantone, team up this shade with other shades from the purple & pink family. Not only is it the easiest but also the most popular way to wear this color.
Not sure if the color is really for you? Just wear an Ultra Violet outerwear just like this Gigi Hadid. It is the safest way to wear the color in winters.
Want to add some flair? Try a nice Ultra Violet statement skirt. Keeping everything else plain & neutral, let the skirt be the focal point for you.
Feeling bold? Try and wear a head to toe Ultra Violet outfit. Be sure to break the monotony by adding some variations of the color or adding a nice print in similar hues.
A classic combination is always a win. Team up your Ultra Violet pieces with a basic white shirt. Not only does it bind the entire outfit together but also helps balance the boldness of the color.
Printed Love
Scared to take the high fashion route? Just add a nice printed top or shirt with hints of Ultra Violet. It is a very safe way to add the color to your wardrobe.
Cozy Up
Add color to your winter wardrobe with a nice Ultra Violet jumper. It is a good way to wear the color in winters.
Hope you guys got some ideas on how to wear Ultra Violet.
Would you add Ultra Violet to your wardrobe this year?

I had no idea the color of the year was Pantone 18-3838. Thanks for the heads up. You give some great tips on how to make it cute!
ReplyDeleteI think that 'ultra violet' is such a fun colour and is perfect for 2018. In terms of the eight shades that they have brought out I have to say that the Jacaranda is a beautiful shade, I love the bluish tones!
ReplyDeleteAmazing how future colors trends are actually taking their inspiration from on going people photos that are currently walking wearing those colors, I love the way that this trend setting world works, so happy they choose the purple as I am working with it for a while now
ReplyDeleteI'm happy that they have chosen my favorite color for this year, my outfit will be very fun this year!
ReplyDeleteI thougt that these berry shades were already modern last year - but what do I know, I'm not a fashionista. So I'm glad that they are still here since these shades look good on me.
ReplyDeleteRed violet and Chateau Rose are more of my colors. I like this year's color, too. It would have been nice though if it liked me too. :p
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed a beautiful colour! But I'm not sure if this will fit every skintone. I have a deep skintone and I tried wearing this colour. It's as flattering with those with fair skin tone.
ReplyDeleteThis is my fave color! <3 However, I think I'll stick to wearing the color on my outer wear and scarves.
ReplyDeleteVery vibrant color. The Pantone 18-3838 (Ultra Violet) is very expressive. Though, I think it is harder to match, but thanks to your insight we now have a guide.
ReplyDeleteOoh how gorgeous!! I have never really worn this colour and didnt realise it was so on trend, I will look out for it and hope that I can find a shade to suit me!
